A survey of California consumers shows distinct regional seafood preferences. Overall, Californians favor, in order of popularity: shrimp, salmon, halibut, Pacific snapper, crab, trout, lobster, sole, catfish, cod, tuna, shark and swordfish. By region, however, Californians tend to prefer the fresh local catch in their area. Northern Californians favor salmon, crab, trout and sole, while southern Californians opt for halibut, shark, swordfish and mahi mahi.
